Confusing Times..

So, I almost had a legit panic attack while at water aerobics this morning.  Now, don't go jumping to conclusions and thinking that it was because the exercising was rough, or there was a spider, or my foot cramped, or I saw a frog in the pool, no.  Although all of the above would have been slightly amusing, none of that happened (Well, the exercising was kind of hard today, and my foot did feel slightly cramp-tastic).  I, for some odd reason, got that gut-wrenching feeling of doom.  That moment when you realize that you had 4 study guides, cuatro (Spanish), quatre(french), FOUR study guides due the next day, and you have not even looked at them.  Not once.  So, I raced home from the rec, took the fastest shower ever, and whipped out my agenda book.  It wasn't in there.  Frantically, I grabbed my laptop and turned it on.  During those 2 minutes it took for my laptop to start up, I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  Seriously, I almost cried.  I quickly opened up my syllabus for the class to find that the study guides are due in 2 weeks.  Not tomorrow, not the day after, but TWO WEEKS from now.  Wow, Kelsey.  Get yourself together.  Of course, this doesn't motivate me at all to actually start the study guides.. I have 2 weeks. They're obviously not on the top of my list. :)

Next, I would like to take a moment to vent about my french class.  I sincerely enjoy learning the language.  I like to find the comparisons to Spanish, but the people in this class are just absolutely the most idiotic people I have ever met.  I realize that's a little harsh, but I'm not exaggerating.  Not even a bit (OK, so maybe a bit, but leave me alone).  For starters,  this one girl, who is extremely loud and has a man voice, sits in the front of the room and insists on yelling about getting drunk before every single class.  Not necessary.  Next, there's the girl who sits 2 seats away from loud-mouth.  She insists on laughing like a donkey every 5 minutes.  Why you may ask? I have no flipping idea.  And then there's today.  Today the entire class had issues trying to pass a paper to the person behind them.  Everyone started shouting about how they didn't have a paper and they didn't know who they were supposed to pass it too because they were at the end of the row.  Seriously? Are you five years old?  I wanted to kick someone.

And I just realized that my venting wasn't really a moment.  It was more like a long, uncomfortable pause.  Thanks for hanging in there. :)

I know, I know.. Too many in one day!

I know I already posted twice this week, and once like 3 seconds ago, but I just read Sarah B's post about Teacher of the Year.  Seriously, if you are planning to be an educator or already are, read this. Do it.  We're all important!
We are the basis of the future.  We're going to teach the next president of the United States, the next great chef, the next world peace-maker, the next Miss USA.  It's us. Respect yourself, respect your teachers.  Learn. Grow. Love.

Procrastination (I'm sure this will be the title of many more posts in the future)

Today I received a request from a dear friend (shout out to Sarah B) who wanted me to post. Again.  Apparently my life is entertaining! I'll take that as a compliment. :)  In honoring this request, I am going to talk about some of the dumb, crazy, and just plain ugly things I see people wearing on campus.  This is going to be fun.

To start things off, I'm going to talk about a new craze.  These weird head wrap things that are like the old knit head bands we used to wear in the snow and in elementary school, except these are on crack.. and not the good kind.  These head wraps are usually a gaudy color of some sort (the cream ones aren't so bad) and have either a bow or a flower on them.  Now, I'm not saying that they look hideous on everyone, or that every single head wrap is disgusting, but I am saying that you should check yourself before you wreck yourself.  I think these are cute for little girls, but not on the college folk, let alone when your hair is down and frizz-tastic.  (Sorry, Sam.  I had to do it.)  I am ashamed to say that two of my close friends insist on wearing these fashion icons. Gross.  It just so happens that Amber lost hers last night.. Coincidence? I think not. I think the fashion angels stole it from her as a favor. So there.

Next, I will discuss the boot situation.  Now, I love me a good pair of boots like the next girl, but when you start wearing the ones that are covered in fur on the outside, we have a problem.  You are not, and never will be, Snooki.  So stop that.  Then we have the rain boots.  I LOVE RAIN BOOTS.  But some girls have begun to wear the nasty rain/snow boots that look like your dad's first pair of snow boots ever.  Puh-lease.

Now to discuss the proper way to wear your jeans.  Do not wear boot cut jeans with boots.  The name is deceiving, I know, but don't do it.  No matter how hard you try to conceal your pant legs into the boots, we will always be able to tell that you have bunched up denim in your boots.  Skinny jeans were invented for a reason.  Invest!  Also, just because we're in college doesn't make it ok for your butt crack to hang out.  Respect those that have to sit behind you, we don't want to see it.  Nor do we want to see your nasty thong.

I think that's all for today.  Enjoy my examples below.. :)

Francais, here I come.

The new semester has officially began and is in full swing... And change, well, it's not always the easiest thing to accept.  My roommate and myself have rearranged our room, we've pierced our ears, and bought some new clothes.  To say we're attempting to embrace this new "change" is a bit of an understatement.  :)

However, I would just like to note that I have decided to enroll in and try to pick up French as a third language.  Yea, I know.. Call me cray cray. I've been struggling with the numbers and how to introduce myself already.  This is going to be a bumpier ride than I expected: Bonjour! Je m'appelle Kelsey.  Comment allez-vous? (Hello! My name is Kelsey.  How are you?)  Impressive, right?  I thought so too.

I would like to tell you about my weekend.  It was one of the most entertaining, fun, confusing, and downright awkward weekend of my entire life.  And I LOVED it.  (Shout out to Bridget here because I know she'll appreciate my awkward encounters..)  For starters, I got to reunite with some old friends from back home of friday night, Jodie, Amber, Ashley, and a new friend, Tana.  We met in my dorm and began our trek ALLLLLLLL the way across campus and then some.  Luckily, we ran into the Oasis Guy, Tim (Oasis being a restaurant on campus that delivers until 4 am).  We somehow got him to agree to drive us to our destination instead of walking.  We love Tim.  Then, after I met some more new people we started our trek ALLLLLLLL the way to the other side of campus.. We're nuts.  But, WAIT!  As we walked across the street, we heard a honk! It was Tim! He was kind enough to offer us yet another ride to our destination.  At this point, we would have married the guy.  It was snowing, and it was windy and just plain gross outside.  We eventually went to Taco Bell for a nice, yummy burrito and then back to S. College to warm up.  The trek back to the dorms would have been a little more enjoyable if Tim would have given us his number. Boo.

Tim's Oasis car, and the whole crew.

Then came Saturday.  I once again branched out and met some more new people! (Two nights in a row, I'm awesome.)  This time I went to a friends house and she happened to have invited a group of girls I didn't know.  Well now I do.  This is where the awkward encounter begins.  There was a certain someone at a certain place and we haven't seen or talked to each other in a certain while... For a good reason I might add.  Well, we saw each other and then we had a short, polite, and awkward conversation about how we missed one another and then he (yes, a he) proceeded to remind me why we haven't spoken to each other in awhile.  As soon as I walked away he was spotted with another woman! How dare he! Just kidding.. but it was still weird. As the night neared the end, I was now spending time with a totally different group of people than when I started and we trekked back to the dorms once again.

Sharon and Myself, looking mighty spiffy if I may say so.

Sunday was a shop til we drop kind of day.  We went to the mall about 20 minutes from BG and we just went.  On a whim, we decided to pierce our ears.  Mine for the first hole, Sam's the second (double ear piercing) and Amber's cartilage. Below is video evidence of Sam being a wimp.  It was a perfect ending to a weird weekend. :) Hope you enjoyed.

APhiO... I'm Back!

So as my more avid readers my know, at the beginning of my first semester here at BG I decided that I was going to pledge for a service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega.  Well, I decided at the time that I needed to get settled, try to find a job, and then maybe I could consider it.

Now I'm back.  I decided over my winter break that I was going to give APhiO a chance.  APhiO is a coed service fraternity that has a focus on none other than: SERVICE.  We do all sorts of community service for all sorts of organizations including: dog walking, boy scout events, Relay for Life, non-profits, and local abuse organizations.  I am so excited to finally become a part of this family.  I've been waiting for my chance to really make a difference in the world and this is the first step.  I can feel it in my bones.  This is what I'm meant to do and nothing is going to stop me this time.

Also, completely changing the subject here, I am enrolled in a class called Teaching students with exceptionalities, AKA teaching special education children who are mainstreamed and children who are on IEPs.  Last night, while in class from 6-9 (UGH, right?), we watched a video from the 80s that was about inclusion or mainstreaming (which means a special ed student is put in a regular classroom with non-special ed students).  This video was about Heather, a little girl with down syndrome, and how she interacted in the classroom with her peers(video at the bottom).  After I finishing the video, I looked around the lecture hall (about 60 students were in the class with me) and every single person had a smile on their face.  Some had tears in their eyes.  It was so inspiring to see this video, a video that wasn't even meant to inspire really, just a video that was the cold hard truth.  After a minute or so, the professor continued to lecture and I couldn't help but get lost in my own thoughts.  I kept thinking about how awesome it is that our society excepts and respects those with disabilities.  And then it hit me: no matter how badly that video made me want to change my major to special education, I could not.  Harsh, I know.  But Heather's story made me feel so emotional that I knew I could never put myself in that environment.  I know that not every child with a disability comes from such a supportive family or has the opportunities that Heather did, and because of that, I knew I would spend my life crying over the special cases that I could not control.  With that being said, I would like all of you to watch the video I watched and then seriously consider volunteering for great program to help people with disabilities.  Help out with the special olympics, hold a fund raiser, volunteer at a school for the disabled.  Do something. Love them like Dobby loves socks.  (sorry, I had to. :P)

Here's the video link: Heather's Story

Thanks for reading.. More to come. :)

I failed. Sorry.

So obviously I failed miserably in the attempt to make this a regular thing (the posting every Sunday situation), but I have to admit: I set myself up for failure.  I knew I wouldn't be keeping a regular schedule over break, so I should have known that it would be nearly impossible to keep a regular posting schedule.  My apologies.. BUT, now that I'm back at BGSU and syllabus week is nearing an end, I'm finding my balance once again.

Here's what you missed:

First, there was Christmas.  The most sacred, wonderful holiday of the year.  The birth of our Savior.  Of course it was everything I expected and more, and I received gifts and gave them.. One of my favorites was my calendar from Bridget which proudly hangs in my dorm room.

After Christmas came New Year's.  Now, this year I was faced with a tough decision: go to Dayton to see kids I graduated with, or stay home, save money, and see some of my oldest and dearest friends.  Well, I'll give you a hint: We had a lot of catching up to do! :)  So we went to our grandparent's cabin, ate some junk food, sang some karaoke, watched the ball drop, and had a blast!

Then came the Missouri trip.  This, my friends, was the best part of my entire break.  Not only did I get to ride in the car for 7 and 1/2 hours (which, this might sound weird, but I love car rides because I get to sing along with the radio and just think) but I also got to spend time with some amazing people (Paige, Danielle, and Coley) at an amazing restaurant.  We went to Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston, Missouri.  AND, I met my future husband.  Will the "Hot Roll Guy" was our dream come true!  My friends and I spent the evening hitting on this, excuse my phrase, "fine piece of meat" even asking if I could throw the rolls out in the restaurant for one lap!  Until, dun dun dun........... We found out he is FRESHLY 17 years old.  Now, for me this is no big deal.  I'm 18, about to be 19, but the rest of our group was not.  This could have been a little bit awkward in the future. :)

And now, I'm back at BG, spending some quality time with my roommate and anticipating the pledge process for APhiO (yes, I'm actually going to pledge this time :P).  Classes have started up, the rain is back, my room is a mess, laundry needs done, and I'm finally settled.  This is going to be a great semester. :)  Until Sunday.
Have a good Week!

Ok.. So I will admit that I definitely did not accomplish or stick to my goal of posting every Sunday... Surprise surprise. But I'm still here! And slightly faithful. Hopefully I will be able to post more fun things as my break continues. I have big plans for the rest of break including gingerbread houses, DIY crafts, baking, and even a trip to Missouri! More to come.
